Hi mate

Do two coats cutting corners on jobs is never good and you will not save mutch time by doing only one coat, in your training you are shown two coats stick to it and you will not go wrong and the finish will be better good luck with your third year mate

Don't cut corners at your stage of the game, worked with old boys and they used to use skimming floats on 3 coat work.

True!! First coat rowel, second coat yellow pine float, third coat trowel. A crossgrain float was used on all internal corners, and you formed all the reveals/soffits/external corners with timber battens. No beading around then. Plasterers then, were taught to plaster/float and set, render, tyrolean, roughcast, screed floors, including grano, plus grano skirtings. tiling, etc. A lot involved in plastering then,,, still very useful today.

I've got a yellow pine darby too S/R. It was an old piece of skirting from a bank. Straight as a dye.
