Hello, I'm plastering a bathroom in a hotel which will be tiled. Normally I would just skim the plasterboards and finish as usual but the tiler wants me to give him a skim keyed finish, what's this all about?. 26 years and this is a first for me, anyone got any advice?

hello and welcome.first cannot see why tiler if going on boards wonts it skimming in the first place.second reducing weight of tiles that can be applied through skimming.as for keyed finish.use you flat brush instead of final wet trowel and leave it,thats it keyed but very strange .

Same as specialrider, tiles on skim takes 20kg m2, on plasterboard it will take 32kg m2.

    Never heard that one before.

everyones covered the basics, if he really wants it skimmed and wants a key the only option is to hand him some 80grit paper and a tub of acrylic primer

Any idea what tiles are being used...maybe the tiler is the one who dosn't know what he is doing..lol...skimming drastically reduces weight limits.
