Re: tilers
You can't dot and dab tiles as they need a certain amount of coverage. I think it's 60 - 80% for walls in a dry area, and 100% in wet areas on walls, and on all floors it's 100% too.
You need to use the right trowel on both walls and floor to achieve this. And you need to make sure you're using the right adhesive for every application, as it's not just 'one for all'.
Many tilers are pulling tiles off the wall too early as they've been fixed incorrectly, either physically, or by the original 'tiler' using the wrong stuff. If at least the right gear was used, and the right application was followed, you'd only see the dodgy cutting, and they'd be hard to get off.
With tiles getting heavier and heavier the issue is getting much more dangerous as it's not just a thin 6 x 6 falling off the wall above your head when you're in the bath, it can be a huge heavy porcelain or stone tile, and if these are fitted with the dodgy dot and dab method somebody could have a bit of a hard time in court to say the least.Dan

Re: tilers
we had a job last week to go remove all bathroom tiles ready for new suite and shower tiles were less than twelve months old, power shower had been installed wich the owner said was constantly getting behind tiles.if correct adhesive and grout had been used couldnt understand how this could be happening.yes.until we started removing the tiles then found all tiles on shower wall were just buttered and pushed to wall.the owner said he had voiced concerns about wall be out of plumb but had been told by tilers they could get over it .they didnt all water just getting behind grout and straight down wall.you will prob get away with it in you kitchendepending on size of tiles used.plus only area of light wetting round sink.
